Atlas Obscura, the online compendium of the world's curiosities, wonders, and esoterica, partnered this year with a secret benefactor for a day-long immersive experience, a Field Trip where explorers could, for free, unearth the secrets of Venice, receive their very own passport to the wonders of the journey, discover a hidden camera obscura, slink their way through the treasures from the 1930 film Mutiny On The Bounty; explore El Bordello Alexandra's dungeons, dragons, knights in shining armor and the eccentrics who still reside in the creepy and kooky old manor; creep through the underground tunnels that once supplied hooch during Prohibition; hop on a gondola; have your photo taken with a real wolf boy and a ballerina clown; enjoy a cocktail in a swanky gin joint that's been in continuous operation since 1915 (yes, even during Prohibition); discover hidden treasures inside an eccentric, scientific prop house (see what woke up Frankenstein!); stand in the terminus of Route 66; and attend an after party in the Del Monte, one of the Venice Tunnels, to the delightfully retro tunage of the Capgun Holdups (http://www.capgunholdups.com/).
